Sergio Aguero Talks About His Break Up With Maradona’s Daughter

Argentina and Man City Striker Sergio Aguero expresses his disappointment about the break up and has insisted that his goals did not dry up in the English Premiership this season because he is heart-broken over his marriage split from Diego Maradona’s daughter.

Aguero had been married to Giannina Maradona – daughter of Argentine legend Diego – for four years before their split and their three-year-old son Benjamin is now living with his mother in Buenos Aires, something that has been difficult for him to come to terms with.

“In these last few months I’ve been trying to adapt myself to a new stage of my life following my separation. It’s not easy after so many intense years living together and so many experiences with Gianni,” said Aguero.

“During this period we grew a lot as people and most importantly we have a product of this love, we had Ben, who is a blessing. This is what is hardest for me, because Ben is in Buenos Aires and I, for obvious reasons, am in Manchester.

“I try to be as professional as possible. I believe it doesn’t affect my sporting performance…but to be so far away from your child is not easy. It’s impossible not to miss Ben,” said the former Atletico Madrid man.

Agüero also reflected on a successful year at City in which they won their first league title in nearly 50 years, and stated that there’s no reason why they cannot retain their Premier League title.

“We won the title because we never knew when we were beaten, even when Manchester United had an advantage that many said was insurmountable. Throughout the season we were the best team,” he said.

“(This year) we’re good. We’ve not played like last year, but we are getting better and in the last few games have been very good.

“We have a real team and we can do it just like last year.

“You’ve got to take into account that this season we’ve had lots of injuries to important players: Nasri, Silva, Kompany, Clichy, Micah Richards and my knee… It’s not an excuse but it obviously has its effect.”
