Why This Serie A Striker Is A Better Fit To Arsenal Than Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal and Arsene Wenger don’t seem too happy with the way Lyon are dragging their feet regarding the transfer of star striker Alexandre Lacazette and the Premier League side seem to have turned their attention to Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi.

The 23-year-old Argentine is one of the hottest properties in Italian football but in all honesty, he can’t think about winning much with Inter thanks to the incredible amount of money being splashed around by Juventus and with the team that the Turin side have this season, Inter would be lucky if they can finish anywhere close to the Old Lady.

It would not be a surprise to see Icardi leave Milan or even the Serie A if the right deal comes along and the Gunners could do well if they can pry his services and bring him to London. Icardi would be a great signing for any club but he does seem to be a better option for the Gunners than Lacazette at the moment.

While Lacazette has been incredible over the years for Lyon and is a consistent goal scorer, he isn’t the toughest player out there and he can be taken out of the game rather easily. Icardi is a South American player and he has that toughness in him, that street footballer in him that can certainly make him a striker that no one would want to mess around with in the Premier League.

Diego Costa, Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero are just some of the South American players – Costa does have a bit of Brazil in him – who have done extremely well in the Premier League and Icardi could be another striker that could do well if he is brought to England.

One of his major strengths is his ability to hold the ball and keep defenders off him. This would allow the Argentine to bring in other Arsenal players into play and would certainly aid the play of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and even Mesut Ozil to an extent.

Lacazette is lethal in front of goal and has scored 54 goals in 88 games in the last two seasons for Lyon but the French league isn’t the toughest in the world while Icardi has found the back of the net in the tougher Serie A 16 times last season and 22 times the season before.

Icardi is also rated as one of the most intelligent players in the Italian as well and that could make him a better option to keep up in front, ahead of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck. The French striker might be Arsenal’s number one at the moment but the fans have been praying for a replacement that is better than Giroud and Icardi’s lethal finishing could be one reason why he could be the other option in place of Lacazette.

The Argentine could be a cheaper option as well than the Lyon striker and as with any transfer, he too would be a risk but his reputation as being one of the toughest strikers out there certainly makes him an option worth trying for and who knows, this kind of South American grit and determination, such as the one consistently shown by Alexis Sanchez also, could certainly make Icardi one of the better signings for the Gunners in recent seasons.
