Sheffield United signing this 6ft 2in star on loan would strengthen a key area for Wilder

Sheffield United opinion: The Blades should sign Dean Henderson on loan

Now that some time has passed, Sheffield United can look back at just how impressive their achievement last season was.

They tackled the likes of Bielsa’s Leeds United, Frank Lampard’s Derby County, a revamped Aston Villa and many other top teams to ultimately make second place in yet another competitive Championship season.

However, the Premier League will be an entirely different ball game. Chris Wilder’s innovative three-man backline, with attacking centre-backs is something that should be very exciting for Premier League viewers to look forward to.

They’ve got one former Manchester United academy graduate signed in Ravel Morrison but it’s another current academy graduate in Dean Henderson that they really need to get over the line this season.

Henderson is also in talks to sign a new contract at United. He’s seen by many as the long-term successor to Spanish international David De Gea.

The young English goalkeeper has been linked with a return to the Blades on a loan deal for another season, according to report in the Manchester Evening News. Wilder must try to get Henderson for another year after his heroics last season.

He was arguably the best goalkeeper in the Championship last season. Henderson has already represented England through various stages. He was particularly impressive in the recently concluded U21 European Championships in a game against France.

He stands at 6ft 2in, which isn’t a lot for goalkeepers but he still has a massive presence and is a very vocal figure. He’s an excellent shot-stopper and is adept at holding onto balls from set-pieces. He’s also like most young goalkeepers, very competent with the ball at his feet.

Dean Henderson

Henderson needs to play Premier League football. David De Gea is set to sign a long-term contract at the club, which will see him spend the rest of his years at the top at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils also have a reliable backup between the posts in Argentinian shot-stopper Sergio Romero.
