Sheffield United signing this PL star for £10m would be quite a statement from Chris Wilder

Sheffield United Opinion: Why the Blades should take a punt on Lys Mousset

According to a report from the Daily Mail, newly-promoted Sheffield United are close to agreeing on a deal to sign Bournemouth’s Lys Mousset.

The Frenchman, 23, has made 71 appearances for the Cherries since joining from Le Havre in 2016, scoring five goals. The report claims that Bournemouth have agreed on a fee worth a potential £10million with Sheffield United.

Chris Wilder is reshaping his squad after earning promotion to the Premier League. He has made some signings so far this summer but remains hungry for more. The Blades need to have both quality and depth in their squad to survive their first season back in the Premier League.

There’s still a lot of work to be done before the summer transfer window closes at the end of this month.

Wilder needs to reinforce certain areas to make Sheffield United capable enough to put up a fight with the big boys. One such area is the forward department, with the Yorkshire club in dire need of more firepower.

The United manager has already signed Callum Robinson from Preston North End and he’ll be competing with the likes of Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick next season.

Despite signing Robinson, Wilder would be wise to add another forward to his ranks and Lys Mousset would be a good fit at Bramall Lane. Mousset has been with Bournemouth since 2016 but has yet to become a regular under Eddie Howe.

He hasn’t fully adapted to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League, managing only five goals so far. Yet, the former France U21 international is only 23 and has time to put his career back on track.

Sheffield United could be the ideal place for Mousset as the Frenchman can realise his true potential under Chris Wilder.

The 23-year-old prefers to run the channels and make intelligent runs in behind to stretch the defence. He is good on the ball, possesses the strength to protect it and can even create some decent opportunities for his teammates up front.

Verdict

Mousset’s addition will undoubtedly bolster Wilder’s attacking options at the Bramall Lane. He will not only be a solid option to play alongside Sharp up top but is also expected to keep David McGoldrick or Mark Duffy out of the United first-team next season.

However, the Frenchman hasn’t set the world alight in Bournemouth colours, so he’ll certainly be a high-risk signing for the Blades.
