UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Arsenal for ‘insufficient organisation’ after Galatasaray fans threw dangerous flares into the ground during a champions league game between the two clubs. Galatasaray will also face the action because of their fans’ misbehavior.
Arsenal fans will be wondering why their club should face any kind of punishment for the wrong-doing of the visitors but fire flares are dangerous and they are banned in all professional football grounds in England. Arsenal security staffs should have searched the away supporters for any illegal items before they came into the stadium. Metropolitan Police confirmed that they have already arrested 2 people for entering the ground with flares.
Basel and Borussia Dortmund are also likely to be charged by UEFA following crowd disturbances in their respective fixtures. If found guilty, the clubs may get a fine, or will be forced to play few games behind close doors (without any fans in the stadium).
