Should Arsenal Look To Sign This Borussia Dortmund Star? (Not Subotic)

Arsene Wenger might have signed Granit Xhaka from Germany but he seems set to raid the Bundesliga for another rising star, this time, the club the French manager is targeting is Borussia Dortmund and the player in question is Matthias Ginter.

The 22-year-old is one of the hottest properties from the Bundesliga and it seems that Arsene Wenger is set to bid for the youngster who seems as a replacement for Per Mertesacker. The Dortmund star can also play as a full-back, something that would make him an attractive player for the Gunners.

Ginter played 29 games for Dortmund last season and the funny part was only 14 of those appearances came as a central defender, the rest of those appearances were spread across as he played even in midfield, it is this kind of versatility that certainly makes him a player to watch out for and it is rather surprising that Borussia Dortmund seems willing to part with a talented star in the making.

The real question is should Arsenal think about signing the player?

A midfielder in the making for Arsenal?

The 22-year-old doesn’t really have a lot of those top inherent qualities that a central defender does. He is good at certain aspects of the game such as heading or even reading the game but he hasn’t shown the ability to consistently play in the heart of the defence. He can play out wide as a right-back or left-back and that should be a good option for Arsenal as they might need proper cover for Hector Bellerin or even Nacho Monreal.

The German also seems to enjoy playing in midfield and he has had the best games when playing in the centre of the park. He could turn out to be another Calum Chambers but a much better version of the player in midfield.

Ginter does need a lot of work on his defensive performances though but he is seen as a future defender for the side and maybe playing him a withdrawn role in the centre in the best way to go about it.

Do Arsenal need him at the moment? It is a tough question to answer as the Gunners already have a wealth of talent for the midfielder position and they have Gabriel Paulista in the side who can take over to play in place of Laurent Koscielny or Per Mertesacker.

One thing is certain, Ginter can only get better if he does move to Arsenal, he might not be the complete defender that many would want Arsenal to sign but he is a good passer of the ball and thanks to his crossing ability, he could be a great wing-back for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger is known for bringing in young talent and this could be another player that does sign for them and who knows what they can achieve with the German World Cup winner in their side.
