Should Arsenal Go For Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling This January?

The Jamaican-born English winger who was signed for a whopping £49million pounds in 2015 from Liverpool FC could be a viable target for Arsene Wenger in January next year. Despite the setbacks at the Manchester club, Raheem Sterling certainly answered his critics after his flying start to the current Premier League season under Pep Guardiola.

The young England International has managed to find a regular place in Guardiola’s team despite other strong signings by Manchester City. Clearly lacking confidence in his first season, the England international looked nothing like the skilful, direct player he was at Liverpool. The massive transfer was bound to put a burden on the young man’s shoulders.

But ever since Pep arrived at the Etihad, Sterling seems to have found his old self again. It is evident now that it’s not just the technical switch that has helped Sterling get back his form but also a case of positive mentality, which Pep seems to have been installed into the young player. Guardiola switched him to the right flank despite him playing on the left for the majority of his career. As a result of this switch, Sterling no longer had to cut inside to his strongest foot and can now use his pace to run past defenders without any hesitation.

Sterling is now a part of a team that attacks with incisive pace and directness and he has been crucial in the team’s destructive breakaways. He could do some similar damage to the opposition if he plays for the Gunners under Arsene Wenger.

Young players like Raheem Sterling are often put in the negative spotlight, especially when players like him are accused of obsession with extreme wealth and or for the fact that he was signed for an outrageous amount of money. People forget about the player’s potential, natural talent and how it can be harnessed to turn the player into football’s next big superstar.

With Alexis Sanchez suspect of leaving Arsenal in the upcoming January transfer window, Arsenal should definitely have a look at Raheem Sterling as a possible replacement to further push their chances of success this season. With City desperate to sign the Chilean, Wenger can demand Sterling in what would be a really good deal. Raheem Sterling is just 22 and has a lot more to offer in the future, as his potential would only get better under the legendary Arsene Wenger.
