Manchester United opinion: Should the Red Devils sign Idrissa Gueye?
According to a report from the Evening Standard, Manchester United are lining up a move for Everton’s Idrissa Gueye as a replacement for Ander Herrera. The Spaniard’s contract is up in the summer and he has been heavily linked with a move away to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The report reveals that Manchester United have refused to pay Ander Herrera’s wage demands of £200,000-a-week and this has convinced the 29-year-old to part ways with the club who signed him 5 years ago.
The Red Devils need a replacement for the veteran Spaniard and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned his attention to the Everton man who was linked away from the Goodison Park in January.
Gueye was a subject of a £26million bid from Pari Saint-Germain but Everton rejected it on deadline day.
However, the report reveals that Gueye will be available for less than £30million in the summer and Manchester United are seriously considering the possibility of bringing him to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.
Positionally, Gueye is an ideal replacement for Herrera as he can play both as a number 6 and also as a box-to-box midfielder.
The Senegalese powerhouse also has tons of Premier League experience, having played over 125 games for Aston Villa and the Toffees since his arrival from Lille back in 2015.
Gueye would form a brilliant partnership with either Nemanja Matic or Scott McTominay in the middle of the park, which would make United’s midfield as solid as it can be.
The Senegalese is also capable of playing as the lone defensive midfielder, which would allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to field a more attacking lineup.
The 29-year-old would also be an ideal short-term addition for the Red Devils where he could hold the midfield on his own for a couple of years before McTominay can develop into a top-class midfielder.
Gueye, with his experience, would also be a guide to the young McTominay, who has shown real promise whenever he has featured this season.
