Go For It Monk – Middlesbrough Should Act Quickly To Land This Highly Talented Leeds Starlet

Mallik Wilks

Middlesbrough Should Sign Leeds Starlet Mallik Wilks And Here’s Why

Leeds United’s highly-rated young forward Mallik Wilks appears to be wanted by several clubs in England’s top two tiers, with Middlesbrough being the early favourites to land his signature.

Wilks is currently on loan down in League Two at Accrington Stanley but has attracted interest from both Newcastle United and Everton, as well Boro.  The latter club may well be a more realistic destination for him at this stage, and of course, the Teessiders are managed by former Leeds boss Garry Monk, who is well aware of the kind of talent that Wilks possesses.

Even though the forward is just learning his trade while playing first-team football, Wilks has managed to score 3 goals in his 15 appearances at Accrington Stanley, with his overall performances gaining him rave reviews.

Yet another product of the youth system at Leeds United – which has been somewhat of a talent conveyor belt over the years – the 18-year-old made his senior bow for the Yorkshire side in the F.A. Cup at Sutton United earlier in the year, but the game ended in a defeat.

Wilks signed a new contract this summer with Leeds, which will tie him up until the end of the 2018-19 season. However, with the constant uncertainty at the club off the pitch leading to turmoil on it, the player may see his future elsewhere.

Middlesbrough have quite a good reputation for helping young players make their way in the game and not all of their own academy graduates come from the Teesside area.

Wilks, should he choose to go to Boro, would find himself in just the right place to take his career forward. For their part, Boro would be landing a player that Premier League managers feel, has a bright future in the game, the most complimentary name being that of Rafael Benitez.

Should the interest from the Premier League be found to be very genuine, then that alone depicts all you need to know about how good a signing this could be for Middlesbrough. Boro are desperate to get straight back to the top division having been relegated last season, and signing an improving talent, who is earmarked for Premier League glory, would not be such a bad tactic.

Wilks has plenty going for him and while his development needs to be handled in the right way, he’s clearly someone who will move very quickly up the football ladder. Hence, if Boro act quickly, they could land a future star.
