Signing this experienced Premier League midfield general could be a shrewd move by Liverpool

Liverpool should make the move for Mousa Dembele

Liverpool have returned to their top form over the last two weeks with the Reds pulling off a sumptuous 4-1 victory against Cardiff City which also saw them concede for the first time at home in the league this season. Klopp’s men are otherwise one of three teams to remain unbeaten for the first time in the history of the Premier League.

According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to offload four of his stars in January, of which one of them is midfielder Mousa Dembele. The Belgian is out of contract in the summer and Spurs are aiming to recoup some funds by selling him in January rather than losing him out on free in the summer.

Klopp should definitely capitalize on the situation and make the early move for the Spurs midfielder. Liverpool could definitely use an experienced deep-lying midfielder like Mousa Dembele in their squad. Though James Milner is still playing at a top level at his ripe age, there will come a time for him to step down and that doesn’t seem too far away.

Jordan Henderson has also struggled with hamstring and ankle injuries over the last two years and that is why Liverpool could do with bringing in the Belgian from Tottenham Hotspur. Though Dembele is not the most offensively appealing players, his underrated defensive work is what makes him a standout option in the Premier League.

A tough-tackling aggressive bully who loves to cause chaos in the middle of the park is the perfect definition for Mousa Dembele. He is comfortable on the ball and possesses the strength to hold off a wall if he had to. The 31-year-old is very good at supporting the defense and then shifting to transition into the attack.

He has averaged a tackle success rate of 69% in the Premier League this season, making a total of 44 recoveries in that time. Dembele is a hard-working midfielder who possesses a brilliant work rate and ethics. Though he tends to lose his temper on a few occasions, the Belgian is capable of disrupting the rhythm of opposition sides. (Stats courtesy – Premier League)

Liverpool should definitely make the move for him in January and though he may not be a long-term investment, Dembele still possesses the ability to transform this Liverpool side into something else. He will surely flourish in either of Klopp’s 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 systems used this season. With Dembele doing most of the dirty work in the middle of the park, the others should receive ample freedom to push forward.
