Go for it Poch – This 6ft 4in French midfield general could be the ideal replacement for Mousa Dembele at Tottenham

Why Steven N’Zonzi could be the perfect replacement for Mousa Dembele at Tottenham

Mousa Dembele has been a midfield powerhouse for Tottenham over the past few seasons. Despite his big physique, the Belgian possesses balance and guile, and he has been a formidable force for Spurs. However, with reports suggesting that Dembele could leave Tottenham this summer, the north London club will be on the lookout for his able replacement. And Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi could be that man. Here’s why:

He’s physically imposing

Dembele’s massive frame allows him to push opponents off the ball and win aerial duels with considerable ease. N’Zonzi possesses an equally imposing physique which helps him to dominate the midfield battles.

At 6′ 4”, he is no pushover and his strength could be the key to allow creative players such as Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli to bombard forward more often and wreak havoc in the opposition half.

Steven N’Zonzi

He’s played in the Premier League before

While the Premier League isn’t an easy competition to settle in, having prior experience can certainly be of great assistance. N’Zonzi first played in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers. He was able to hold his own in a crumbling Blackburn team which suffered relegation to the Championship. He then joined Stoke City in 2012 before moving to Sevilla in the summer of 2015.

While Tottenham are a far better side than both Blackburn and Stoke, N’Zonzi too has become a more complete midfielder since the last time he played in the Premier League.

He’s box-to-box

N’Zonzi’s can make box-to-box runs and play the long balls, while also winning the crucial midfield battles.

He was immense against Manchester United in the Champions League last season as he was the key to quelling the threats of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, thus allowing Sevilla’s defence to breath easy.

If Spurs manage to sign N’Zonzi, they will finally have someone who can contribute at both ends of the pitch. Victor Wanyama has not been able to break into the squad regularly, and Spurs must make a move for the Frenchman this summer.
