Smalling The Man! The Best And The Worst Rated Manchester United Players In Their 0-0 Draw Against West Ham

Manchester United produced another dull performance as they hobbled to their sixth goalless draw of a listless and insipid season. The hosts looked ineffective for the most part as the visitors West Ham produced a solid defensive effort and with a bit of luck from the goal post, the Hammers could have easily traveled home with all three points.

Juan Mata looked ineffective as Louis van Gaal’s side once again lacked the cutting edge in front of goal. Here are the player ratings from what was an incredibly frustrating afternoon for the Old Trafford faithful.

David De Gea – 6/10

Made an error which almost cost United but saved Daley Blind’s blushes as he saved a one-on-one against Victor Moses.

Paddy McNair – 6/10

Did a commendable job defensively but failed to provide anything going forward.

Chris Smalling – 7/10

Dealt well with the aerial threat of Andy Carroll. United’s best defender of the game, and the season so far.

Daley Blind – 6/10

Never looked uncomfortable at any point except when West Ham broke through Victor Moses in the first half.

Matteo Darmian – 6/10

The Italian needed to provide better delivery after getting himself into couple of good attacking situations.

Morgan Schneiderlin – 5/10

Too safe with his passing, a constant criticism of the Frenchman in this season at United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – 5/10

Never looked in control in central midfield. Surprisingly a quiet day for the German maestro.

Juan Mata – 5/10

Provided little attacking thrust and looked a marginal figure throughout.

Jesse Lingard – 6/10

One or two enterprising runs and a miscued shot to show for his efforts.

Marouane Fellaini – 5/10

The Belgian was a peripheral figure for the most part, and was far too sloppy on the ball for the Stretford End’s liking.

Anthony Martial – 5/10

Missed a glorious sidefoot to score his first goal in two months. The goals have dried up, and so has the confidence of the young Frenchman.

Substitutes:

Michael Carrick – 5/10

Ineffective at playing that killer pass to open up a stubborn West Ham backline.

Guillermo Varela – 5/10

Could have supported Mata more from the right wing.

Memphis Depay – 5/10

Came on late, but produced a great chance for Anthony Martial. The Dutchman should start.
