Three Ball Winning Midfielders Who Arsenal Can Target In Order To Solve Their Midfield Problems

The Gunners are missing a serious bite in the midfield this season with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin proving to be ineffective in their midfield roles.

Arsene Wenger desperately needs players who can help his side take control in the middle of the park. The Gunners midfield is currently lacking players who can win the ball back from the opposition and needs to consider a couple of new signings that can help the side take control of the midfield.

Here are three talented young ball winning midfielders Arsenal should consider signing in the upcoming January transfer window.

Ruben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves stunned major European clubs after choosing to sign for Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer. The former FC Porto midfielder is a technically gifted footballer and one that was targeted by many big European clubs in the past.

He might not be athletic or physical but is one of the best tacklers of the ball in his age group. His vision for pass and interceptions rank amongst the best in the game. His strength lies in keeping the attack going after intercepting balls from the opposition.

He is certainly a young talent that Arsene Wenger should consider bringing in to improve the midfield.

Thiago Maia

This 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder might not be a big name in the world of football at the moment but has all the qualities to play for some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Maia currently plays for Lille in Ligue 1 and has made 5 appearances so far for the French side.

The young Brazilian oozes elegance on the pitch and can be compared to Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets in terms of style of play.

His strengths lie in dictating the game and keeping a firm control of the midfield. His best asset is his ball retention. Maia can take the ball off the opposition with absolute ease and can also charge when he has the ball at his possession.

The Brazilian is also very physical and can hold the ball the well. Maia averages 2.7 interceptions per game and loves to dispossess his opposition. Maybe it’s time for Arsene Wenger to sign this talented Brazilian youngster.

Riechedly Bazoer

The 21-year-old Dutch sensation is slowly gaining popularity in Germany after his impressive performances for Wolfsburg after joining from Ajax in 2016. An all-round talent, Bazoer is just as capable in defence as well as in attack.

The Dutchman is an engine on the pitch and has phenomenal work rate for a 21-year-old. He is physically strong and can overpower opponents bigger than him with ease. With an asking price of £38m, he might be a bit expensive but is certainly worth a bid for the Gunners.
