Southampton beating Leeds for £3.25m winger could turn out to be a masterstroke by Hughes

Why Southampton should hijack Leeds’ move for Brandley Kuwas

According to Leeds Live, Championship powerhouse Leeds United are considering a move for their previous target, Brandley Kuwas. The Heracles Almelo attacker has been on the Peacocks’ radar in the past 12 months.

He is valued at around £3.25m, which is not high considering the modern-day market in football. The 26-year-old’s contract ends after this season, hence, the Elland Road club can either buy him on a cut-price deal in January or get him on a pre-contract agreement to land him for free in the summer.

The Dutchman is a quality player who can play as an attacking midfielder behind a striker or stay wide and put crosses in, just like he has been doing for the current club.

Southampton are struggling for something like that this season. They are labouring to create chances for their strikers.

Hence, hijacking Leeds’ move for Kuwas wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Saints. Here’s why:

Player Analysis – Brandley Kuwas

One of the main attributes which Kuwas possesses is delivering top quality crosses into the box. Therefore, the strikers would love to play alongside him on any given day. The defenders would find it tough to repel those swirling, devilish and accurate balls into the box.

The 26-year-old is good at dribbling past people to create space for a key pass or a cross. He is very adept in taking set-pieces and delivering incisive balls into the box from dead-ball situations.

In the Eredivisie this season, the Dutchman has a dribble rate of 2.4 and a key pass rate of 2, which is pretty high. He has netted two goals and provided one assist in seven league appearances.

Analysing the attributes and the numbers which support them, Kuwas can be an ideal player for Southampton. He could be the one to bolster the front-line of Mark Hughes’ team, which is not producing much.

From the player’s point of view, it would be great for him to join the Premier League rather than the Championship. In the English top-flight, he will get the recognition that will enhance his reputation as a footballer. If the Dutchman performs well for Southampton, he might even earn himself a big move very soon.
