Southampton must blindly re-sign this magical Englishman to partner James Ward-Prowse in the midfield

Southampton opinion: Should Southampton re-sign Adam Lallana?

According to The Mirror, Adam Lallana’s Liverpool career could be over in the summer if Jurgen Klopp bags Sporting Lisbon star, Bruno Fernandes. Liverpool are joined by Manchester United in the race for the Portuguese and the move will have a major impact on Lallana’s future at Anfield.

Lallana joined Liverpool in 2014 from Southampton and the report suggests that the Saints would be interested in bringing back the 30-year old to the St. Mary’s in the summer.

Lallana has started just 3 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season and has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Naby Keita and the resurgence of Georgino Wijnaldum.

Liverpool are just a point off of the top spot and must do everything they can to win their first league title in over 25 years. In fact, it would be a brilliant way for Lallana to end his time at Merseyside.

Southampton, however, have been abysmal this campaign and are currently 18th in the league. The Saints’ chances of landing their former star will heavily rely on their status of being a Premier League club.

Being just 1 point off of 17th placed Cardiff, Southampton have a reasonable chance of survival and will have to do their best if they want to have any chance of signing the 30-year-old.

Before his move to Anfield, Lallana featured over 200 times for the Saints and played a massive part in their promotion to the Premier League as he scored 11 times from the midfield.

Two years later, he became the next Saints prospect to leave the club after graduating from the youth system – just like Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale and many others.

Lallana will bring loads of experience to the Saints squad with over 300 senior appearances for club and country and would bring in the creativity that the south coast side has massively lacked this season.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is in dire need of a player like Lallana, who can create space for himself and dribble his way into the box before unleashing a shot or setting up a teammate.

Lallana would form a brilliant attacking midfield duo alongside James Ward-Prowse.

Conclusion

Southampton shouldn’t think twice about the move to bring their former star back to the club. It would be a perfect story for the player too, returning to the club that made him for the final few years of his career.
