Southampton signing this promising 21-year-old Englishman would set the tone for their January window

Why Southampton should move in for Eberechi Eze

Southampton finally got off the mark in the Premier League with a win away from home against a revitalized Brighton side. They delivered some decent enough performances over the last two weeks but failed to get a result.

With a win to their name now, however, they can start building some momentum.

They’ve become a very different unit under Ralph Hasenhuttl with his high-pressing style and need to find some stability after a few years of underwhelming displays.

Southampton, a couple of years ago, were known for their fantastic recruitment and seem to have spotted another youngster who could elevate himself at the St. Mary’s with the Sun reporting that they’re eyeing Eberechi Eze of Queens Park Rangers.

The 21-year-old Englishman has become a star at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium and plays as a number 10, taking up most of the playmaking duties.

Eze was released by Milwall in 2016 but has fought back since to show that he’s got what it takes, despite questions over his physicality. Eze is eligible to play for Nigeria but has already featured for the England U20s. He’s capable of playing in any of the forward positions; left, right or centre.

Last season, he made a comeback of sorts under the guidance of Steve McLaren, who nearly got them to a playoff spot. He has carried that form into this season, having already scored a goal against Wigan earlier in the weekend to inspire a comeback for his side.

It’s been a fantastic rise for the youngster since March and he seems to have finally gotten the chance to showcase his abilities and deliver on it. Southampton currently lack an out-and-out creative outlet with James Ward-Prowse mostly used in set-pieces and the wing-backs doing the rest.

Eze will provide a creative outlet and help retain possession a little higher up the pitch and not let the forwards feed off of scraps.
