Manchester United will travel to Swansea City seeking revenge after the Swans did a double over United last season. United are still a work of progress and haven’t managed to find the free flowing rhythm that their fans expect from them. LVG took United back in the Champions League after a year of absence with 4-0 thumping of Club Brugge on Wednesday. What would have pleased the United supporters most about the mid-week performance was their captain Wayne Rooney getting back amongst the goals with an emphatic hat-trick.
Sergio Romero
With David De Gea situation still far from being resolved, Romero is expected to continue between the sticks for right now. He’s had a solid start to his United career with 3 consecutive league clean sheets. If he can maintain this form in the coming months who knows United might not even need DDG.
Darmian
Has settled well at his new club, on the evidence of first three matches looks like one of the best signings of the summer. Frequently comes forward to join the attack and supply some threatening crosses into the danger area.
Shaw
Seems to be a totally new player after working hard in the summer on his physical strength, doesn’t get bullied off the ball now. Needs to keep producing good performances on a consistent base, if he wants to justify his high price.
Smalling
United’s player of the season so far, has been solid at the back. Keeps the back four organized and focused all the time. Seems to finally achieving his potential, his place in the starting XI remains secured.
Blind
With Phil Jones still on the sidelines due to injury, Blind will partner Smalling at the back. Looks in total control at the back, adapting to a new role under LVG.
Carrick
Mr dependable for United right now does all the dirty work, which often goes unseen. Not 100% physically fit right now but gives it everything for the duration of time he is on the pitch.
Schneiderlin
Adds a lot of teeth to United’s attacking dimension, covers a lot of ground and is always looking to break up play when the opposition have the ball. Solid start to the season.
Ander Herrera
What a performance by the Spaniard on Wednesday night scored one and assisted another. Could make his first Premier League start of the season against Swansea.
Mata
Works hard to drive United forward, is a constant threat to the opposition with his wide range of passing. More often than not he has the keys to unlock resolute defenses.
Depay
Is a livewire on the pitch, always looking to make something. Has bundles of energy which he uses to torment the opposition. What is even more impressive is his telepathic understanding with Rooney in just 3-4 games.
Wayne Rooney
Answered his critics with a brilliant hat-trick in midweek against Brugge. Has a lot of responsibility on his back as the United Captain and their only striker. Needs a partner who can take some of the workload of his back.
