Why This Speedster Could Be The Signing Of The Season By Liverpool

Liverpool certainly are revelling in their victory over Arsenal and while most pundits and fans are going ga-ga over the fantastic goals that Philippe Coutinho scored, there was another player who performed out of his skin at the Emirates.

While Alberto Moreno did his best impression of a ticking time bomb, Sadio Mane proved many doubters wrong with an incredible performance topped up with an amazing solo goal.

The Senegalese winger, who is the most expensive African footballer ever, turned Arsenal inside out with his fantastic runs and the speed with which he ran past a couple of players, cut in and smashed home with his left foot to beat Petr Cech would certainly have many thinking why they did not try to sign the 24-year-old.

Many had scoffed at the £34 million paid by Liverpool for the former Southampton winger but the fact is that the market is highly inflated and bringing in a player that has performed extremely well in the Premier League will always cost over the odds.

Mane might not have been the best Southampton player last season but he is one of the best wingers in the world and his performance at the Emirates certainly backed that up. Manchester United were also one of the clubs who were trying to sign the talented attacker but they chose other targets and that left Liverpool to come in and swoop up the star.

As we get closer and closer to the end of the transfer window, we will see a lot of panic buys and crazy fees being paid to ensure that teams do not have to deal with a lack of quality in an area of two.

Mane is known for his goal scoring ability and in every season from 2012 onward he has scored more than 10 goals for his team. That includes his best ever return in the Premier League with Southampton last season, which was 15 goals, 11 of them came in the league campaign for the Saints.

Liverpool have been able to get their hands on a player who is direct, pacey and has an eye for goal, something that is not available in a lot of wingers nowadays. Not only is Mane feat in front of goal, the 24-year-old also can set players up and his link up play with the other Liverpool attackers on the first day of the seasons against Arsenal was a thing of beauty.

It still is early days in the Premier League and there are a number of players who did well on the first day such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly but the Senegalese star certainly has proved that he can not only play for a bigger team and he can score as well.

The price might look like peanuts if he can lead Liverpool to a top four place and he will only get better for the Reds as the season progresses. Liverpool have got someone that can play well and can be a nuisance to most defences in the league and there is a very good chance he will be the player of the season in the league, let alone the signing of the season.
