Tottenham beating Real Madrid to sign this in-demand Polish sensation would be a statement of intent from Pochettino

Tottenham opinion: Spurs to battle for Luka Jovic – Good move?

According to a report in Football.London (h/t Don Balon), Champions League runners-up Tottenham are set to battle Spanish giants Real Madrid for the signature of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic.

As per another report earlier (h/t Sun), it was suggested that the Los Blancos have already confirmed their transfer of the striker, with a fee of £52m agreed to (h/t Sun). However, none of that has happened yet.

Now, after losing the Champions League final to fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool, Spurs are looking to sign the Polish international. (h/t Football.London)

Jovic, 21, is one of the hot properties in Europe at the moment, with Chelsea also interested in him for some time now (h/t Metro). He scored 27 goals in 48 appearances for Frankfurt in another productive season.

Here’s why Tottenham should do everything in their might to sign the striker this summer:

Spurs need to put pressure on Kane

After making no transfers in the past two windows, Spurs’ squad is in need of some freshness. Despite their fairytale run in the Champions League, it was clear that they need more depth in quality if this is to continue in the coming years.

Harry Kane, who has been a talisman at the club, has been prone to injuries over the past 12-15 months. It is chiefly because Mauricio Pochettino has no backups on his bench, and he starts the England captain, even when he is not 100% fit.

A perfect example was the final against Liverpool, where the manager started him, but his lack of match fitness showed throughout the game.

Hence, it is pretty obvious that Tottenham could do with another top-quality striker in their squad. For that reason, them battling to sign Luka Jovic is the right decision.

The Poland star can either play with Kane or as a lone striker in certain games. His presence in the squad would also force the England international to be on top of his game every single time, which is a necessity.

Conclusion

Looking at this situation from Spurs’ perspective, they really need additions to their squad. If they manage to sign Jovic, it won’t be a bad start at all.
