Full Time: Manchester City 3-1 Hull City

Manchester City ended a run of 4 Premier League games without a win by easing to a comfortable 3-1 victory over relegation-threatened Hull City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

An own goal from Ahmed Elmohamady put the hosts ahead before Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph secured three important points in the race for Champions League qualification.

Hull, who went into the game with confidence after successive victories were outplayed, but managed a late consolation when City’s goalkeeper Claudio Bravo allowed an Andrea Ranocchia shot to slip through his grasp.

The win meant that City kept the pressure on Liverpool who sit 3rd in the table, two points above the Citizens. Here is how the City players fared on the day.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Claudio Bravo – 6/10

For long phases of the game, he went  untroubled due to John Stones’ brilliance and Hull’s incompetence in attack. Let the shot slip through for the Tigers’ only goal.

Jesus Navas – 7/10

Was a threat with his runs up and down the right-flank throughout the game. Looked nervy in some situations, but may have found a way to make himself useful to the team again.

John Stones – 8/10

It was a classy performance from the Englishman at the back who took up the mantle of leadership at the back. Beginning to justify his price tag.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 7/10

A couple of poor decisions aside, the Serbian defender was fairly solid. His cross-field passes to release Raheem Sterling were a potent weapon.

Gael Clichy – 6/10

A rare decent performance for the former Arsenal man who has been on the receiving end of criticism in recent weeks. Looks better when his team is dominating the game.

Fabian Delph – 7/10

One mistake in the early parts of the game that almost allowed Hull through on goal. Delph put in an all-round performance in the middle of the park. His tackles were strong, passing was crisp and capped the game off with a brilliant strike to make it 3-0.

Raheem Sterling – 8/10

The Englishman returned to the line-up after missing out on the midweek fixture and had an excellent afternoon. Asked serious questions to the Hull defence with his direct running and pace, which was key for the second and third goals.

Yaya Toure – 7/10

Kept it simple in the middle of the park, helping City stay camped in the Hull half. Neat and tidy in possession, attempted a few shots from distance as well.

David Silva – 7/10

It was the Spaniard’s 300th game for Manchester City. While it may not have been a spectacular performance, Silva showed several brilliant touches and moments of his superior vision.

Leroy Sane – 6/10

The German international failed to match the level of performances that he has been dishing out in recent weeks. Missed a sitter early in the game and looked below his best but still was a threat to the Hull backline.

Sergio Aguero – 7/10

Scored his tenth goal in ten games and looks like he is back at his devastating best. His selfless approach on the pitch is something that has been a revelation in recent weeks.

Substitutes

Nolito – 5/10

Replaced Sane in the 65th minute. Hasn’t played a lot in recent times and the rustiness showed.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6/10

Came on for David Silva in the 72nd minute. Did nothing of note.

Fernando – 6/10

Replaced Yaya Toure with 15 minutes left to play as Guardiola looked to solidify the midfield.
