Steve Bruce’s decision to sign this 6ft 1in defender on loan is a commendable job – agreed?

Why Aston Villa have a done a good job by signing Axel Tuanzebe on loan again

Aston Villa have signed Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on a season-long loan deal, as per a report from BBC.

Tuanzebe, 20, is the second player to join Aston Villa this summer after Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Andre Moreira.

The 20-year-old was brought in on loan at Villa from Manchester United last season in January, but he made little impact. In fact, he appeared just 5 times before suffering an injury, thus limiting his opportunities at Villa Park.

Villa’s failure to achieve Premier League promotion had a mighty impact on their financial situation, leaving manager Steve Bruce in a position to sell his star players in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play Regulations. But with the entry of new investors, the club’s financial problems — which had blighted the summer’s transfer activities — have been eased and Bruce has witnessed a late surge of fresh faces.

Tuanzebe is the latest face to join the Villans, although he isn’t an unknown identity for the supporters. They weren’t lucky enough to see the 20-year-old’s quality week in and week out last season. But now that Tuanzebe is back to full fitness and had a decent pre-season with Manchester United, he should be ready to impress at Villa Park.

Tuanzebe would offer Bruce some depth in the defence, which could be crucial as the season progresses. Villa’s defensive ranks look rather thin. They have lost all their loanees from last campaign and have also bid adieu to defensive stalwart John Terry. And considering the plethora of options at centre-back for the Red Devils, Tuanzebe’s decision to return back to Villa makes sense.

Tuanzebe is a quality addition for Bruce’s side. After all, he is a player well-renowned for his power, strength, stamina and pace. Furthermore, he has been one of the most talented youngsters to have emerged from the Manchester United academy. He has played for United in a few games following his debut in January 2017 but the player failed to get regular game time due to the presence of experienced internationals.

The 6ft 1in defender, who can also play in the midfield, is a good reader of the game and can bring the ball out from the back. He is assured in possession and is a leader who captained the Under-18 team as a first-year scholar at Manchester United.

At 20, Tuanzebe needs to play regularly for his development. By bringing Tuanzebe back to Villa on a season-long loan, Bruce has done a commendable job.
