Stoke signing this proven Championship goal machine is the move that could take them back to the PL – agreed?

Stoke City opinion: The Potters should make a move for Dwight Gayle

According to reports from English news the Guardian, Stoke City have joined the race for Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle.

The Potters need a reliable frontman and have decided that the man who netted a rather impressive 23 goals in just 39 appearances is their man. That should come as little surprise, given the fact that Gayle isn’t wanted at Newcastle.

The Magpies are looking for someone more reliable in the Premier League, with the 28-year-old averaging just 6 goals in the few seasons he did spend in the top-tier. However, when it comes to the second-tier, Gayle is a master with a few sides capable of stopping him.

He’s flourished in the Championship and Stoke City have struggled over the past year or so. The Potters were relegated after making a series of rather terrible decisions, including bringing in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to replace the departed Joselu and Marko Arnautovic.

To say that the Schalke man struggled was a massive understatement. However, Stoke City, on the other hand, have failed to add a reliable striker which is one of the reasons they failed to finish higher than 16th.

Things will get worse in the near future unless they add someone much more reliable or rather someone who can hit double figures for them. They did add former Arsenal and Wolves star Benik Afobe but he managed just eight goals before disappearing into the abyss.

Not to mention, Sadio Berahino scored just three goals. That means that Afobe, Joe Allen, Tom Ince, and James McClean managed to net what Dwight Gayle managed to do single-handedly.

It’s a rather impressive total and with the right manager and the right signings to improve their squad, they have a chance to do well in the future.

The Potters finished 16th in their first season back in the Championship, which needs to improve. In fact, a large portion of their season was spent in and around the bottom half of the table and that needs to change in the near future.

That is if Stoke City ever want to find their way back into the Premier League in the coming seasons.

Conclusion

Stoke City need someone like Dwight Gayle in their ranks because if there is one thing the 28-year-old can do, it’s score goals in the lower leagues. The Newcastle United forward excels in the lower-tiers and right now Stoke City could do with someone like that.
