Strongest Watford Line-up Fitting In Their Summer Acquisitions
Watford have begun life under new boss Marco Silva on quite a positive note. The club has been able to bring in some very talented players in the summer and have started the season on a positive note as well, having collected five points from three games in the Premier League.
The signings of Andre Gray from Burnley, Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea, combined with various other talented players like Andre Carrillo, Richarlison and the deadline day signings of Marvin Zeegelaar from Sporting Lisbon, Orestis Karnezis and Molla Wague – both on loan from Serie A side Udinese, represent some very good business for the Hornets.
Now that the transfer window has slammed shut, here we take a look at the strongest possible playing XI that Watford can field going further this season.
Manager: Marco Silva
Formation: 4-3-3
Orestis Karnezis (GK)
The Greek international was signed on loan from Udinese on the deadline day and given his recent form and record, he could definitely go on to replace Heurelho Gomes between the sticks.
Kiko Femenia (RB)
The Spaniard has had a decent start to life in England and with Daryl Janmaat sidelined due to an injury, he should hold on to his place.
Sebastian Prodl (CB)
The Austrian was one of the few impressive players for the Hornets last season and with Younes Kaboul troubled by injuries, Prodl should be retained as one of the centre-backs.
Christian Kabasele (CB)
Endured a difficult season last time out, but with injuries to few members and Miguel Britos’ three-match suspension, he will get his chances to make the spot his own.
Marvin Zeegelaar (LB)
The 27-year old was another player who was signed on the deadline day and will provide solid competition to Greek left-back Jose Holebas.
Etienne Capoue (CM)
The former Tottenham Hotspur man has found his goal-scoring boots at the start of the season, scoring twice in two appearances and that should convince Silva to field him ahead of Tom Cleverley.
Abdoulaye Doucoure (CM)
The 24-year old midfielder provides the legs and the energy in the middle of the park for the Hornets and is likely to be stuck with in the playing XI regularly.
Nathaniel Chalobah (CM)
The new signing from Chelsea has settled in well and has had a decent start to life at the Vicarage Road. Should occupy the third central midfield spot.
Andre Carrillo (RW)
The 26-year old winger is someone who Silva knows very well and his track record speaks for himself. Should take up the right flank, despite having joined only recently.
Andre Gray (ST)
The club record signing will be given his chances and the competition between him and club captain Troy Deeney is sure to be an interesting one this season.
Richarlison (LW)
The Brazilian attacker looks like a promising young player with pace, trickery and an eye for a goal. Could prove to be a great signing. Will feature regularly on the left-hand side of the attacking trident.
