“Super Rams”, “That’s how you do it” – Some Derby fans go absolutely crazy after 4-3 comeback win + Match report

Norwich City 3-4 Derby County: Rams end 2018 on a remarkable high

Derby County staged an astonishing late comeback to beat high-flying Norwich City 4-3 at Carrow Road on Saturday in the Championship.

Strikes from Ben Godfrey and Teemu Pukki put Norwich 2-0 up but Derby County hit back with goals from Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount before the break. Teemu Pukki made it 3-2 for Norwich but there was a 20-minute delay due to a floodlight failure.

After the resumption of play, Florian Jozefzoon equalised for the Rams before Jack Marriott fired home a dramatic winner in the 90th-minute.

Norwich started the game on the front foot, with the players exchanging quick passes and pressing Derby high when they lost possession. Richard Keogh put Derby in trouble when his back pass was intercepted by Onel Hernandez but Scott Carson did well to block the winger’s low angled drive.

Derby invited too much time and space for the hosts to take control of the game. And they rightfully fell behind in the 25th minute.

Mario Vrancic picked out Marco Stiepermann from deep and the German did well to get the ball under control before cutting it back for Ben Godfrey, who side-footed the ball home from close range. And it took only six minutes more for Norwich to double their advantage. Vrancic picked out Pukki, who needed just one touch before guiding the ball wide of Carson from 12 yards out.

Two goals in the space of six minutes did shake up Derby County but they managed to get themselves back in the game five minutes later. Tomori lashed the ball into the net off the underside of the crossbar after Norwich failed to defend a short corner.

And in the first-half injury time, the Rams equalised through Mason Mount’s fierce low drive from 10 yards out after Norwich once again failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Neither side could force a breakthrough until Pukki’s 81st-minute goal looked to have settled the contest in the favour of the hosts.

However, Derby simply failed to give up and after the players returned following the 20-minute floodlight failure, Lampard’s boys Jozefzoon bundled in the leveller in the 87th minute before Marriott sent the travelling supporters absolutely wild by lifting the ball over Tim Krul with a deft finish right at the death.
