Superb Marriott, Poor Waghorn – The best and the worst rated Derby stars in the 2-1 win vs Sheffield United

Derby County Player Ratings vs Sheffield United: Here’s how the Rams fared

Goals from Craig Bryson and Jack Marriott proved to be enough as Derby County defeated Sheffield United 2-1 at Pride Park in the Championship on Saturday.

Craig Bryson put Derby ahead after just 19 seconds on the clock but the midfielder was later forced off with an injury. Chris Basham then levelled for the Blades before the interval.

But Marriott gave Derby all three points when he swept home a Craig Forsyth pin-point cross from the left with 13 minutes left in the game.

Derby County Player Ratings

Scott Carson – 5/10

Almost gifted United a late equaliser after spilling an Oliver Norwood corner. Moments later, he made himself big to deny David McGoldrick’s drive from a tight angle.

Jayden Boglen- 6/10

Bogle was a constant threat down the right-hand side for the hosts. He often joined the attack and stayed defensively strong as well.

Richard Keogh – 6/10

Marshalled the backline very well. Coped well with the aerial threat of an in-form Billy Sharp.

Fikayo Tomori – 7/10

Made some crucial interceptions and blocks to guide Derby to a morale-boosting victory. Tomori’s passing was also good on the day.

Craig Forsyth – 6/10

Provided an inch-perfect cross from the left for Marriott’s winner. Enjoyed a solid game at left-back.

Tom Huddlestone – 6/10

Replaced Bradley Johnson in the starting XI for only his second start of the season. Kept Derby ticking with his tidy passing.

Craig Bryson – 5/10

Gave a rollicking start to Derby by scoring inside 19 seconds. Bryson showed good balance and technique to score from 12 yards out past goalkeeper Dean Henderson. He eventually had to be replaced after picking up an injury.

Mason Mount – 6/10

Mount showed good energy and intensity against Sheffield United. Picked up some important spaces behind the United defence. He made a fantastic interception to deny the visitors a late equaliser.

Martyn Waghorn – 5/10

Couldn’t influence the game but toiled hard before getting substituted in the 70th minute.

Harry Wilson – 6/10

A smooth operator of the ball, Wilson made some intelligent runs in the box as the change of formation following Bryson’s injury allowed him more freedom on the ball.

Jack Marriott – 8/10

The man of the match! Scored the winner with a wonderful volley from eight yards out. Marriott led the line well, combined brilliantly with Wilson and Mount, and was always a threat in the box.

Substitutes

Tom Lawrence – 5/10

Lawrence replaced the injured Bryson in the first half. He offered a different dimension to the attack and forced Henderson into a good save after the break.
