Sheffield United completing this £3million deal for Championship star would be an absolute bargain by Wilder

Sheffield United opinion: Should the Blades sign Luke Freeman?

According to a report from Sky Sports, Sheffield United are close to completing a £3million deal for Queens Park Rangers’ 27-year-old attacker Luke Freeman in the coming days.

The youngster enjoyed a highly impressive season for a struggling QPR side last season and he would check all the boxes for Chris Wilder this summer.

The Blades’ growth over the last three years has been nothing short of a dream story and Chris Wilder will finally get to live it at the summit of English football next season. The Premier League, as exciting as it is, is an unforgiving league where any hiccups will hurt you dearly.

Sheffield United have to be prepared to face a whole new level of football against some of the best teams in the country next season and Chris Wilder will need to make his sure that his squad is up and ready for it.

The Blades have a number of areas in their squad that need addressing but one position where they are well occupied is up front. Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick will continue their outstanding partnership up front but for them to produce all the goods, Wilder will need to bring in a proper creative outlet.

United will not have the same kind of space in the Premier League as they were so used to having in the Championship last season and a proper attacking midfielder with a free role will benefit them massively.

Luke Freeman is exactly the kind of player that could help the Blades next season and with the 27-year-old being British, he fits Wilder’s surprising yet fully effective transfer policy. The former Arsenal youth player was a shining light in an otherwise incredible season for the Royals last season.

He scored 9 goals and provided 8 assists in all competitions, which is a fantastic return for someone who played in a struggling squad. Freeman will have the chance to showcase his quality in the top-flight next season and his creativity will be a blessing for the Blades.

Freeman, if given a free role, will constantly drift around the park keeping himself open for a pass. The Reading man, once he gets on the ball, has the ability to unlock defences with a killer pass or if there is enough space, have a pop at goal himself.

Signing Freeman could potentially give Sheffield United the push that they need to survive their biggest and most exciting campaign in an awfully long time. The 27-year-old is at the peak of game and Wilder is the perfect manager to push him to that next level.
