Norwich City opinion: Should the Canaries sign Charlie Gilmour?

According to a report from the Daily Record, Norwich City are set to complete a deal to sign Arsenal’s 20-year-old midfielder Charlie Gilmour in the coming days.

The exciting young midfield prospect will be a free agent after being released by the Gunners and he is on the lookout for regular first-team action, with the Canaries keen.

Gilmour has been with the Gunners since he was six years old but failed to make it as a regular starter. The 20-year-old played just 21 minutes of football for the Gunners’ first-team, which came this season in the Europa League.

Gilmour is an exceptional talent and Arsenal releasing him comes in as a massive shock. However, with the plethora of midfield options available for Unai Emery, the decision to let him move on to further develop as a player makes sense and is the right thing for all parties.

Norwich will look to make an impact on their return to the Premier League and they will need all the help that they can get to stay up at the end of next season. Daniel Farke worked his magic brilliantly to lead the Canaries to the Championship title last season but the real test starts now.

Very highly-rated at Arsenal and in Scotland, Gilmour is a calm and composed figure in defensive midfield. The youngster is brilliant technically, as you would expect from someone coming out of Arsenal’s academy and he would certainly be a very exciting prospect for Norwich next season.
