Crystal Palace signing this talented young Man United star would be a statement of intent by Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace opinion: Should the Eagles sign Scott McTominay?

According to a report from The Sun, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Manchester United’s Scott McTominay in the summer. The report says that the Eagles are ready to pounce on the Scotsman if United fail to secure his long-term future at the club this summer.

McTominay rose to fame after being pushed into the starting lineup by former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

The 22-year-old has had a highly impressive season at Old Trafford but the report reveals that he is still anxious to see where he stands in Solskjaer’s plans.

The new Manchester United boss ignored McTominay for about two months after his appointment but then used him for four games in a row. His performances in those four games were outstanding and United were undefeated during that time.

However, Nemanja Matic was preferred in the very next game against Arsenal, where the Red Devils were hammered 2-0 as McTominay saw the whole game from the bench.

This could have played a part in the young midfielder being anxious about his future, especially after how good he had been in the previous games.

United would certainly be making a huge mistake if they choose to let go of McTominay in the summer but their loss could turn out to be Crystal Palace’s gain, as they will hugely benefit from his services in the coming years.

The Eagles’ midfield recruitment from last summer in Max Meyer has turned out be a failure, as the German has failed to adapt to the speed of the Premier League.

Palace could massively bolster their midfield with the addition of McTominay in their three-man midfield with Milivojevic and McArthur either side of him.

The Scottish international is a rock in front of the backline and he will provide them with much-needed steel in the coming years. Palace remained close to a top-half finish all season but disappointing home performances ruined their chances.

However, with a quality midfielder like McTominay in their ranks, their defence will certainly improve and the with the Manchester United midfielder’s brilliant range of passing, Wilfried Zaha could cause real havoc when set free from deep.

Conclusion

Crystal Palace signing Scott McTominay would be a huge statement of intent in the summer and Roy Hodgson will receive a massive push in reaching his ambitions for the club next season.

McTominay’s presence in central midfield will massively bolster the Eagles’ squad, both in attack and in defence, and Palace should go all out to snap him up in the summer.
