“The man is a joke”: Some Newcastle fans roast the referee after thrilling 2-2 draw vs Bournemouth + Match report

Bournemouth vs Newcastle United Report: Newcastle United match report

Bournemouth came from behind to take the lead against an in-form Newcastle United side but a stoppage-time goal from the visitors finished the game 2-2.

Salomon Rondon’s first-half free-kick was cancelled out by Josh King from the spot before he gave the Cherries a deserved lead from outside the box with 10 mins left to play. However, former Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie’s 93rd-minute equaliser shared the points between the two teams.

The visitors started the game brightly with the first chance falling to the feet of Isaac Hayden whose shot was saved comfortably by Boruc. Rafa Benitez’s side continued to dominate possession as Mo Diame’s long ball was misjudged by Mepham but Boruc rushed to grab the bal.

The wind was causing a lot of problems for both sides as Bournemouth failed to create anything meaningful in the final third. Ayoze Perez was the first player to go into the book after a late tackle on Ryan Fraser.

Fraser was immediately involved as he got onto King’s pass down the left flank and his shot hit the woodwork. Bournemouth got into the game as both sides exchanged attacks in an end to end game.

Jefferson Lerma became the next player to receive a yellow card as he extended his tally to 11 this season, more than any other player in the Premier League.

Miguel Almiron drove into the Bournemouth half in stoppage time and was brought down by Jordon Ibe, who was booked. The resultant free-kick was taken by top scorer Salomon Rondon who buried it past Boruc to give the Magpies a 1-0 lead at the break.

Bournemouth started the second half brightly and won an early penalty as Fernandez brought down NathanΒ Ake. Josh King converted the penalty in the 48th minute to level the game up.

The momentum of the game completely shifted as the home side piled the pressure on. Mepham came close from a corner as his header went narrowly wide.

Rondon then picked the ball up in the box and got around Ake before his shot deflected into the path of Ritchie, who failed to poke the ball in. Jefferson Lerma was the next player who came close as he headed over from close range.

A mix up in the Newcastle box gave Callum Wilson a golden chance score but his header was brilliantly cleared off the line by Paul Dummett. Issac Hayden was booked in the 76th minute after a trip as the home side pushed for a winner.

Dominic Solanke did brilliantly well in the box to draw three Newcastle defenders onto him before his pass was buried into the back of the net from the edge of the box by Josh King.

Newcastle pushed hard for the equaliser as substitute Christian Atsu’s ball into the box was almost tucked in by Chris Mepham but Boruc got down well.

Newcastle, however, managed to get back on level terms with seconds left on the clock as Matt Ritchie finished a cross from DeAndre Yedlin with his brilliant right foot.

The draw meant that Bournemouth went above Everton to 11th place but the Toffees play Chelsea tomorrow. Newcastle remain 13th as Benitez’s side come closer to securing survival in the Premier League.
