“The Spurs we know and love”, “Well done, heroes”: Some Tottenham fans react to 4-0 win vs Crystal Palace + Match Report

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace report: Tottenham match report

Tottenham ran riot against a ragged Crystal Palace, with Son Heung-min’s double inspiring the hosts to a 4-0 victory.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side scored all their goals in a devastating opening 45 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

They stormed out of the blocks and took an early lead courtesy of a clever finish from Son after a brilliant long ball from Toby Alderweireld. Patrick van Aanholt turned Serge Aurier’s low ball into his own net before Son added an expertly taken volley and Erik Lamela made it four after a clinical move.

A failure to add to their tally in the second half was no reflection of their play and Pochettino will be really pleased with his team’s overall performance under the bright north London sunshine.

After a stuttering start to the season, Tottenham reminded everyone they are a quality team by dismantling an in-form Palace side.

The home side took the lead after 11 minutes, when Son beautifully controlled Alderweireld’s long pass, cut inside Gary Cahill and stroked the ball into the corner. They were ripping Palace apart and it was only a matter of time before a second came, and it duly arrived after 21 minutes.

Serge Aurier, who was handed his first start for the club, had space on the right and his cross hit Van Aanholt before wrong-footing Vicente Guaita.

Two minutes later the game was all but over when Aurier, again given far too much space, crossed and Son spectacularly volleyed past the Palace goalkeeper. And it was four three minutes before the break when a cross, yet again from the right, from Harry Kane was turned in by Erik Lamela.

After the break Son had a couple of chances to complete his hat-trick. At the other end, Cahill’s downward header from a corner was easily pushed away by Hugo Lloris. Despite bringing on Christian Benteke, James McCarthy and Victor Camarasa late on, Palace failed to make an impact as Spurs cruised to victory.
