27 goals, 9 assists – Everton’s attack would go one level up if they sign this red-hot Benfica star this summer

Everton opinion: Should the Toffees sign Haris Seferovic?

According to a report from Liverpool Echo, Everton are set to battle it out with fellow Premier League rivals Southampton for the signing of Benfica’s Haris Seferovic in the summer.

The 27-year-old had a phenomenal season for the Portuguese champions, having scored 27 goals and provided 9 assists in all competitions.

Everton and Southampton are in dire need of a new striker to achieve their own separate ambitions after a terrible return from their current forwards this season. Everton, in particular, could have achieved great things with a productive striker but finished 8th instead.

Cenk Tosun has been a humungous disappointment since his big-money switch from Besiktas 18 months ago while young Dominic Calvert-Lewin, despite his incredible work ethic, has his fair share of problems in front of goal.

Marco Silva was forced to use Richarlison up front due to his strikers’ failures and the Brazilian did a brilliant job there. However, Theo Walcott’s unproductive performances for most parts of the season forced Richarlison back on the wings from where he was again hugely effective.

Everton should keep Richarlison in his highly effective inside-forward role and bring in a good enough replacement for Cenk Tosun in the summer. However, Haris Seferovic is certainly not the player that should be considering this summer.

The Swiss international was undoubtedly one of the stars in the Liga NOS this season, having directly been involved in a staggering number of 36 goals in all competitions. Seferovic had the best season of his career and he would be an incredible fit at Goodison Park next season.

The Swiss international played an incredible part in Benfica’s title triumph last season and he is one of the biggest reasons why the club are where they are.

The 27-year-old had his best return as a professional footballer last season and he is at the peak of his game at the moment which should prompt Everton to seal the deal for him as quickly as possible.

Conclusion

Everton’s failures this season have mainly been down to the lack of end product from their strikers and signing Haris Seferovic will almost guarantee them a good enough return to achieve their ambitions next season.
