Arsenal opinion: Should the Gunners consider a move for Exequiel Palacios?
In the end, Arsenal failed to do anything and they let Aaron Ramsey leave for free, with the Welshman set to join Juventus in the coming months. It’s a stunning decision taken by the club.
Their investments in the past have hurt the club, thus, making it impossible to give the midfielder the wages he desired.
Arsenal have not only lost a leader in their first-team but more importantly, they lost a goalscoring midfielder the likes of which are rare these days. It shows just how important Ramsey has been over the last few years for the North London side, often deciding games with his goals.
That more than anything is what Arsenal need to replace in the summer window. Alongside their defensive reinforcements, one of Arsenal’s main targets have to be a central midfielder to replace the Welshman.
That is easier said than done but given the club’s history to target bargain deals, it’s one that is absolutely possible. One man who does fit that bill but would cost a pretty penny is Exequiel Palacios and Arsenal are have been linked via Football.London.
The 20-year-old River Plate star has enjoyed a great time with his current side and is already well on his way towards 50 appearances for the club. While his goal-scoring exploits aren’t at a world-class level, the talent that Palacios has shown on the field has made a few mouths water.
The Argentinean has shown a lot of promise and there is hope riding on his shoulders to take over the creative duties for his country. A lot like Ever Banega in many ways, Palacios is more of a box-to-box midfielder than a number 10 and that’s why he would be the ideal replacement for Ramsey.
But that isn’t to say that the 20-year-old cannot play further forward, as he has done that over the course of his career. He started out as a wide-attacker but coaches soon realised that his strengths lie in midfield.
His work-rate, intensity and desire to press consistently and throughout the game will endure him towards Unai Emery because that’s what the Arsenal boss demands. But combine that with his vision, passing accuracy and late runs into the box, it will give Arsenal fans a touch of nostalgia.

Arsenal need someone like Exequiel Palacios in their squad and it’s a move that will only help boost their presence in midfield. Alongside Lucas Torreira, the two would form a deadly partnership and Palacios has that presence of mind and goalscoring ability to be able to replace Ramsey.
