Three clubs who should sign this exit-linked 26-year-old Swansea star including Aston Villa

Swansea City opinion: 3 clubs who should sign Mark van der Hoorn

According to a report from the BBC, Swansea vice-captain Mark van der Hoorn’s future at the club is under doubt and the Dutchman could leave the club for a free in the summer.

The report reveals that former chairman Huw Jenkins had talks with van der Hoorn about a new 2-year deal but since his resignation in February, the talks of an extension have dematerialized.

The Dutchman has been ever-present for the Swans in the Championship this season and has been the captain of the side in the absence of Leroy Fer, who has struggled with injuries.

The 26-year-old still has a lot to offer but Swansea’s loss could turn out to be someone else’s gain. Here are three Championship clubs who should make a move for him in the summer.

Fulham

The Lilywhites’ status as a Premier League team will come to an end this summer and they will return to the English second division. Fulham will have to address their squad’s situation and find worthy replacements for players who will leave in the summer.

One player who is certain to leave is Callum Chambers. The youngster will return to Arsenal on completion of his loan-deal and Fulham will need to replace the Englishman.

Mike van der Hoorn would be a perfect addition for the Cottagers and the Dutchman’s experience and leadership would certainly increase their chances of a return to the Premier League.

Aston Villa

The Villains are currently 5th in the league and have a massive chance to get into the playoffs, at the end of the campaign. Dean Smith’s side have been in fine form and will be aiming for promotion to the Premier League next season.

However, Villa will lose Tyrone Mings after his loan-deal will come to an end in the summer and they will need a solid replacement for him. Mike van der Hoorn would be a valuable addition to Dean Smith’s side and the 26-year-old would solidify Villa’s defence for the coming years.

Huddersfield Town

Like Fulham, Huddersfield have had a torrid time in the Premier League and are set to finish at the bottom, unless things change. Reports have emerged that Terrence Kongolo will leave the club come the end of the season and the Terriers will need to find a replacement for him.

Mike van der Hoorn, coming in for a free, would be a massive coup for Huddersfield and the club should not hesitate to make a move for the experienced Dutchman in the summer.
