Three Wingers Who Manchester United Can Target In The Summer

Manchester United have had a mixed season so far under the new management of Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils started off the season with the FA Community Shield win and followed it up with the EFL Cup triumph in February and have made it to the UEFA Europa League finals.

But their performances in the Premier League have been somewhat dampening. They may have managed a record unbeaten run that lasted 24 games, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. The number of draws in those games has been the major reason for United languishing at sixth place in the league table, struggling for a top four finish.

The major reason for these stalemates this season has been United’s inability to finish off the chances. Mourinho’s side have created the fourth highest number of chances in the Premier League this season, but their profligacy has let them down time and time again. Other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic, there has been no player who has managed to enter double figures in terms of goals scored in the league. This is something that the Portuguese manager will have to address in the summer.

While a new striker will be at the top of the shopping list for Mourinho, another area where he should look to reinforce is the flanks. Apart from Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the rest of the wide players haven’t really impressed.

Bringing in a winger who can contribute with goals; somewhat like Eden Hazard has done for Chelsea or Alexis Sanchez has done for Arsenal will help United a great deal to ease their goalscoring woes. To that end, here are three explosive wingers who the 20-time Premier League winners can target:

Bruma

The Galatasaray man has been in top form for the Turkish giants this season and has attracted interests from a lot of top clubs.

Bruma, this season, has managed to score 10 goals and has also set up 8 more from 33 appearances so far and has had an excellent campaign. The 22-year old may lack the experience of playing in one of the top leagues, but his talent is there for everyone to see. He has the pace and the skills to be a threat to the opposition and has proved his goal-scoring acumen as well, making him an ideal target.

Yannick-Ferreira Carrasco

The Belgian has grown into one of the most promising young attackers in Europe currently and has been in blistering form for Atletico Madrid.

Carrasco, 23, has netted a highly impressive 14 goals for Diego Simeone’s men this term and has also registered 5 assists. Adept at playing on either flank or through the middle, the Atletico man has been brilliant both domestically and on the continental stage. He was one of the major driving forces behind the Rojiblancos’ excellent run up to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The former Monaco man is in contract with the club until 2022 and will cost United a huge sum of money, but he is someone who will be worth every penny spent.

Thomas Lemar

The 21-year old Monaco attacker tends to go under the radar on occasions in comparison to the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Bernardo Silva, but Thomas Lemar has been equally pivotal, if not more, to the French side’s excellent season.

A total of 14 goals and 13 assists from 52 games exemplifies his capabilities at the tender age of 21. The fact that he has played more than 50 games in the season is also a testament to his excellent fitness levels. Lemar was particularly brilliant in the Champions League quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund and has shown the pedigree to succeed at the biggest stage.

With a contract that runs until 2020, he is expected to cost United some serious money. But considering his age and the potential, it could prove to be a great piece of investment for the Red Devils.
