Three Possible Replacements for Fabregas at Chelsea

Cesc Fabregas is reportedly contemplating his Chelsea future after being left on the bench for the opening game against West Ham. The blues midfielder has been a regular first-team player since this £30 million move from Barcelona two years ago. Even though he comes on the back of a poor campaign, it is not an excuse to part company with a player who can single-handedly destroy opposition’s defensive line. Still, it creates the debate of the three best potential replacements if Fabregas does leave Chelsea in the next two weeks.

Isco (Real Madrid)

Signed by former blues boss Carlo Ancelotti in 2013, Real Madrid paid a whopping €30 million for Isco even back then. His style of play is similar to that of Fabregas’, but Isco does provide a lot of versatility to the team. His dribbling skills and the ability to score from long distances mean that he should be capable enough to deal with the rigours of Premier League football. At just 24, the addition of Isco will also be a long-term solution to Chelsea’s midfield.

Marco Verratti (Paris St Germain)

A playmaker of immense talent, Verratti has come up against Chelsea on numerous occasions in the last couple of years. The progress made by the Frenchman is clear to see. Even though he initially had a tendency to lose the ball now and then, experience has turned Verratti into a classy midfielder. He has been moulded by the Italian national team to become a replacement for Andrea Pirlo. After being a consistent first-team player for PSG, Verratti lost his first-team place last season.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea can take advantage of any unhappiness within the player and convince him of a move towards Stamford Bridge.

Ross Barkley (Everton)

The England international could be the best option to replace Cesc Fabregas since he is a player who does not need any time to get going in the Premier League. However, he could also be the most expensive option amongst the three largely because of his homegrown status. The lack of English talent in Chelsea’s squad could become a major issue if the Premier League tightens its rules over the number of homegrown players in a squad. The blues will have to fight out with Manchester City for the signing of the 22-year-old, who could probably become the next Frank Lampard.
