Manchester United has six players, whose contracts are expiring this year, with team captain Nemanja Vidic is the most notable name amongst them. The 32-year-old’s future remains unknown, however his agent Silvano Martina hinted that his client is may leave Old Trafford when his contract expires. In that case, the veteran centre-will have numerous offers to choose from, with many top clubs already showing some interest.
Here are the three reasons why Manchester United should renew their captain’s contract:
1. No young replacement
Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are the only three centre-backs that would be left in United’s first team, after Vidic’s departure, as Rio Ferdinand’s contract is also due to expiry this summer. The Serb has no successor at the club, considering Jones or Evans would replace Ferdinand, aged 35. Nevertheless neither Jones, Smalling nor Evans are ready to receive the baton from the captain, defence leader Nemanja Vidic. If the Serbian international left the Red Devils they’d have to search for a young, efficent centre-back outside the Old Trafford and extra founds would have been had to spent.
