Three Reasons Why Manchester United’s Failed Transfer May Still Succeed

Memphis Depay has had an indifferent start to life at Manchester United after finding himself on the bench in recent weeks. The 21-year-old Dutchman has failed to rediscover his form for PSV last season scoring 4 goals in 13 appearances for the Red Devils this season.

It seemed like a fairytale start for the winger as he scored twice on his Champions League debut for United against Club Brugge and opened the scoring away at Eindhoven, but the goals and the tricks seem to have dried up in recent times. Memphis has seen himself dropped to the bench after a string of lackluster performances, compounded by his awful display at the Emirates Stadium which saw him getting the hook at half time.

With Jesse Lingard proving his worth in a United shirt with a terrific goal against West Brom on Saturday, Depay will have to step up his game in order to kickstart his career at Old Trafford. Here are 3 reasons why Memphis Depay will bounce back and shine in a United shirt this season.

Needs time to settle in England

It can’t be easy for a player to adapt to the Premier League straight away. Mesut Özil took a year to regain his best form after moving from Real to Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez is showing his class this season after an ordinary first season by his standards.

The Premier League is a big step up from the Dutch Eredivisie and a much more physical league than what Depay has been used to in Holland. Given time to settle and the confidence by the manager, we’ll see the best of this youngster in a Manchester United shirt very soon.
