Three Targets Diego Simeone Could Consider Signing If Everton Appoint Him As Their Manager

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri sacked Ronald Koeman about a week or two back. He has taken some time now but has identified Diego Simeone as a replacement. Currently, David Unsworth has taken over as the caretaker manager but they need to make a permanent appointment soon. The suave Atletico Madrid boss is believed to be his No. 1 target to become the new manager at Goodison Park.

Some might call it ambitious thinking, and it remains to be seen if the manager would be willing to leave Atletico Madrid now. However, if Everton manage to appoint him, the game will certainly change in their favour. Simeone is one of the most respected managers in the sport, and his style of football along with his animated personality on the touchline has allowed Atletico to compete in the La Liga and match up to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

If Simeone takes up the job at Everton, he will have an uphill task of rebuilding the squad. He will need reinforcements, and with the January window coming up, here are three targets he could consider.

Javier Hernandez – West Ham United

Javier Hernandez is one of the most underrated players in the world. Everywhere he’s gone, the Mexican has delivered. For example, in 49 Premier League starts, Hernandez scored 37 goals for Manchester United. At Real Madrid, he scored 7 in 7 starts, while in the Bundesliga, he scored 28 in 45 starts. In fact, he is now a proven goal-scorer in three of the major leagues in Europe.

He currently plays for West Ham but he could be tempted to join Everton, with a manager like Simeone in charge, and the Toffees could most certainly benefit from signing a player like him.

Marek Hamsik – Napoli

With Ross Barkley seemingly refusing to sign a new contract, Everton are in need of a direct attacking midfielder. On that front, Hamsik is not only a suitable replacement for Barkley but an upgrade on the Englishman. The 29-year old is an underrated player that excels at delivering through balls, attempting long shots and running with the ball. His decision-making is also considerably better than the Everton man’s, as his movement facilitates his teammates to flourish.

The Napoli midfielder could be tempted by a move to join the Premier League in search of pastures anew, after serving the Italian club for quite some time now.

Marko Arnautovic – West Ham

Arnautovic has not had the best of starts at West Ham. He has been inconsistent, to say the least, but there is no denying his quality. He possesses an inane attacking ability, which will be welcomed at a possible new-look Everton with Simeone as the leader. Arnautovic was Stoke City’s leading scorer in the league with 11 goals last season, and his 6 assists highlight his all-round contribution to the team.

Ever since Romelu Lukaku left the Toffees, they have been devoid of a quality attacker and that is a gap Arnautovic could fill.
