Time for goodbye? 3 players Huddersfield must offload this month including 27-year-old duo

Three players Huddersfield must offload this month

Huddersfield Town had a Premier League season to savour after they escaped relegation in their inaugural top-flight campaign.

David Wagner’s side began the season with a stunning 3-0 win at Crystal Palace on opening day and went go on to take nine points from their first six matches. The Terriers’ highlight of the season came in October when they defeated Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United 2-1 at John Smith Stadium.

Following a hot start, which placed Wagner’s men 10th in November, Huddersfield endured a dismal spell. But in the end, a hard-fought draw at Chelsea secured Premier League survival for Wagner and co. with a game to spare.

As far as the summer transfers are concerned, Huddersfield have done well by bringing in reinforcements to bolster the current squad. But with new players coming in, Wagner must offload some of his last season’s heroes to maintain balance.

Here are three players Huddersfield must offload this summer.

Collin Quaner

Collin Quaner has been a subject of interest from Championship side Preston North End in the closing stages of this summer’s transfer window, as per Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

Quaner, 27, made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Terriers last season but failed to find the net throughout the entire campaign.

The German, who signed for the Terriers in 2017, did not feature in the pre-season for Huddersfield Town. Failing to score a single goal last season, it would be ideal for Wagner to offload Quaner this summer and recoup some money.

Michael Hefele

Michael Hefele was instrumental in Huddersfield’s surge to the Championship playoff final where they beat Reading on penalties to secure their Premier League status in the 2016/17 season. However, he fell down the pecking order in the top-flight, making just six league appearances this past season.

And the centre-back is only set to fall further after Huddersfield secured the loan signing of Terence Kongolo. With Hefele entering the final year of his contract at Huddersfield, Wagner could do well by offloading the club’s hero this summer.

Scott Malone

Scott Malone was left in West Yorkshire to train individually with the injured Danny Williams while the entire Huddersfield squad flew to Austria for pre-season.

Scott Malone

Malone was signed from Fulham last summer and the full-back made 22 Premier League appearances this past season. But with Huddersfield making Kongolo’s loan switch permanent and adding World Cup winner Erik Durm this summer, Malone clearly is surplus to requirements.

So, it would be best for Huddersfield to offload Malone this summer. He is 27 and will be entering the prime years of his career, meaning the full-back won’t face trouble finding a new club for himself.
