How Can Everton Beat Tottenham This Weekend?
With the end of the international break, Premier League football once again takes centre stage with a mouth watering game between Everton and Tottenham on the weekend. Both sides have some genuine talent in their squads and two world class managers leading them.
While Tottenham will look to continue their form from their 2-0 win against Newcastle United on the opening day, Everton will be looking to bounce back from the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
Everton will certainly be the team that would be more hungry for the three points, with all the big summer signings that they have made. Ronald Koeman will be aware of the consequences of a defeat this weekend and will approach the game by looking for a win.
However, beating a side like Tottenham will not be an easy task for the Toffees. Ronald Koeman might have to approach the game with a defensive mindset for the first half of the game at the least. Although Tottenham are one of the best defensive sides in the League, any team can fall prey to a counter attack.
The Toffees should look to frustrate Tottenham similar to the way Burnley have, in their 1-1 draw away. The Clarets did not let them get many shots on target, although they did give them plenty of possession in the game.
Everton are definitely an improved side under Ronald Koeman, having brought in a mix of attacking and creative players in the summer. The likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen will be a major threat to Pochettino’s side, especially in set piece situations.
Everton’s summer signing, Sandro Ramirez has not exactly made an impression so far this season and might take a bit longer to settle into the side. But Everton’s young forward, Dominic Calvert Lewin could be the one to make a difference for his side, having already made a stellar impression in the previous games.
Ronald Koeman must start the young English forward as he adds plenty of pace to the side and can link well with Wayne Rooney to provide his side the goals. The Toffees must also be wary of Harry Kane as his curse of August has been lifted. The Englishman could possibly get his Premier League campaign started with his first goal of the season.
