There have been some disappointing teams that came into the season looking to lock the champions’ spot but haven’t been able to live up to the hype that surrounded them at the beginning of the season, as results haven’t been always in their favour through these 14 weeks.

The most disappointing teams so far are actually neighbours, as both Manchester United and Manchester City were set to completely demolish and dominate every single rival side, but have struggled to find consistency through most of the year and they found themselves in a bit of a difficult spot right now.

The latter team, especially, is struggling right now, as they haven’t been able to seal the games with that outstanding possession style, and were totally destroyed by Antonio Conte’s Chelsea the last time they showed on the pitch, and it often feels like Guardiola’s missing the plot with his squad.

So, even if Manchester City is one of the most loaded and reinforced teams so far, it seems like something’s missing, and they’re more than keen to fix those woes during this upcoming transfer window, and you know this team isn’t afraid to break the bank and spend a lot of cash in order to achieve big things.

So, we’ll take a look at the 3 January transfers that they should do in order to save this season and thrive in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Virgil van Dijk

The Dutch defender has been linked with almost every single contender in the Premier League for most of the year, as he has been one of the most prolific and solid defenders for Claude Puel’s Southampton.

Even if the French boss has stated that he has no intentions whatsoever of letting Virgil walk during this transfer window, the big interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City could change their mind with a big investment for the youngster, and he could provide a big boost for the citizens struggling defence.

Cesc Fabregas

Even if Manchester City’s midfield is actually pretty crowded, Guardiola has to find another guy that could help both Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva take some pressure off their shoulders, especially during those less important games where they should be resting.

Fabregas and Pep really know each other and the Spanish boss clearly trusts him, and he still has a lot left in the tank and can provide a lot of help for the citizens while taking vengeance of Antonio Conte, who hasn’t counted with him for his new Chelsea.

Julian Weigl

There has been a lot of interest in Borussia Dortmund’s starlet Julian Weigl, as the German youngster’s having an outstanding year and both the citizens and Real Madrid have stated that they’re willing to pay as much as 4 times his current salary.

Weigl is an outstandingly talented defensive midfielder, and even if Fernandinho has had a very good year, this young lad could really improve Guardiola’s side, especially on the counter attacks, where they have been extremely vulnerable through most of the year.
