Top Three Right-sided Midfielders In The Championship This Season Including Aston Villa Star
There’s plenty of competition for places in this sort of list with attacking and midfield talent not exactly sparse in the Championship.
Adama Traore almost made the list given that he is better than his stats show, though he simply hasn’t played enough. Sammy Ameobi (who saw that coming?!) is another who has done incredibly well but has weaknesses while Jarrod Bowen will surpass lists like this one before long but still has holes in his game.
Nevertheless, here are three of the best during this season of the Championship:
Robert Snodgrass (Aston Villa)
A modern player in the sense that he loves to play on the right but cuts inside onto his favoured left foot – and he does it with great skill.
All of the former Hull City man’s 22 Championship starts this season have come on the right-hand side and he has been exceptional almost every time, though it appears that he is more than happy to start from ever so slightly deeper.
Playing on the right of a four-man Villa midfield, Snodgrass has managed 5 goals and 7 assists in 20 matches making his contribution absolutely invaluable.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (Cardiff City)
The big fella has had a great season so far in what may yet turn out to be a playoff year for the Welsh side. Although capable of playing in the centre, 18 of his 22 Championship starts have been on the right-hand side where he has excelled with four goals and four assists in that time.
His general play is top notch; very strong, capable of taking on and beating his full-back and with a good final ball to back it all up. Should Mendez-Laing give the ball away a little less, then he could be described as the finished article, though either way, his contribution to a good season so far for the Bluebirds has been immense.
Ivan Cavaleiro (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
It’s perhaps no surprise to see a Wolves player in this list and Cavaleiro gets the nod ahead of Helder Costa after what has been an excellent half-season for him. 15 appearances on the right for Wolves in the league have resulted in six goals and an assist so far, though that only tells half the story as his general play is so good that he creates great space for others to run into and cause mayhem.
He is one of a handful of players in this Wolves set-up who would not be out of place in the Premier League and it seems certain we’ll see him there next season.
