Waste Of Money! – 5 Flop Signings By Liverpool In Recent Times

Jurgen Klopp is trying hard to establish Liverpool as a European beast after almost a decade, as he has his side playing some flattering football, for more than a year now. They have some short-comings that need to be addressed but the German has done pretty well with his transfer activities, since taking over the club back in 2015.

The Reds have bought a variety of talents in the last few years but not every player has been able to break into the first-team straight away. There have been a number of flops over the last few years at the club and here are five such players, who can be termed as the worst signings for the club in recent times:

Iago Aspas

One of the brightest stars for Celta at the moment in La Liga, Aspas joined Liverpool with loads of expectation back in 2013 for £9.7m but he made just 15 appearances under Rodgers, where he failed to establish himself in the first-team. Though he is doing well in his career at the moment, was a flop during his time at Anfield.

Lazar Markovic

The Serbian winger is still in the books of the club this season after he moved to England for £22.5m back in 2014. He spent the first year at the club and then was sent out on loan and the fact that not many clubs wanted him this past summer, shows how far he has fallen down. He has 3 goals in 34 appearances for the Reds and is just not in the good books of Klopp, the current manager at the club.

Adam Bogdan

Another player still in Liverpool’s squad is Hungarian stopper Bogdan, who came in on a free transfer in 2015. Error-prone and inconsistent, Bogdan had made just 6 appearances for the Reds so far and though they want to get rid of him, Liverpool are unable to find a suitor for the 30-year old, costing them a few quid in wages. Surely, he is one of the most bizarre transfers in recent times by the Reds.

Rickie Lambert

The former Southampton striker is a boyhood Liverpool fan and was given a chance to prove himself at Anfield back in 2014. He scored 3 goals in 36 games for the club before being sold to West Brom. The fact that he was brought to the side to replace Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona that summer, is totally ridiculous and he certainly was a massive flop at Liverpool despite his commendable goal-scoring record throughout his long career.

Fabio Borini

Currently playing for AC Milan on loan, Borini joined Liverpool in 2012 and just a year later, was sent out on loan to the Stadium of Light. He came back to the club after Suarez left but was sold just a year later. In his stint at Anfield, Borini managed 3 goals in 38 appearances for the club, before being off-loaded, making his career at the Merseyside a pale one.
