Top 5 Strikers Of The Championship Season So Far

The Championship has been quite an intense affair this season and most clubs have performed excellently on so many levels. The likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County and Aston Villa have been delightful to watch and it will be interesting to see which clubs ultimately earn a promotion to the top-flight.

With more than half of the season done and dusted, it has given us a fair idea of which players have been reliable enough for their respective teams. Although a lot of them have been prolific in netting the goals, there are five who have stood out. Let’s take a look at who has made the cut.

Matej Vydra – Derby County

Vydra is the leading goalscorer in the Championship at present and it is not tough to see why. He has been in blistering form for the second-placed club and has easily been one of the best in the league. Having scored 16 goals and provided 3 assists so far, Vydra seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. Despite struggling to an extent in the previous campaign, the Czech international has remarkably turned things around for himself and has done a brilliant job so far.

Leon Clarke – Sheffield United

Sheffield might be gracing the 8th spot in the league standings at present but Clarke has been putting in some top-class performances for the club. He has chipped in with 15 goals and 2 assists so far. Clarke’s pace and creativity up front are delightful to watch and he can prove to be a nightmare for even the toughest of defenders on any given day. He can easily finish the season as the top-scorer.

Leo Bonatini – Wolverhampton Wanderers

The Wolves have been in spectacular form this season and have truly come a long way under Nuno Espirito Santo’s tutelage. Bonatini has been one of their brightest sparks this season and he has contributed 12 goals and 5 assists so far. Despite being just 23, Bonatini seems to have an old-world charm to the way he plays and has displayed a lot of maturity in several situations for the Wolves. He has a long way to go but if he continues like this, Bonatini can easily be one of the best.

Lewis Grabban – Aston Villa

Grabban played for Sunderland in the first half of the season and he proved to be quite a revelation for the otherwise struggling club. He smashed 12 goals for the Black Cats and there is no doubt that Chris Coleman will miss him. Now, he will be looking to continue his goalscoring form at Aston Villa for the remaining half of the season and if he plays the way he played for Sunderland, Grabban will establish himself as a key member of the Aston Villa squad.

Britt Assombalonga – Middlesbrough

Coming close behind is Britt Assombalonga, who has also scored 12 goals so far. His main strength lies in his sublime finishing skills and the efficiency with which he dribbles. Having played a starring role for Middlesbrough so far, it will be interesting to see how far he can go by the end of the season. The club might be at 9th place in the points table but they can certainly be happy about the way Assombalonga has played so far.
