“Top of the league”, “Back up where we belong”: Some Norwich City fans delighted with 3-1 win against Millwall + Match Report

Norwich City vs Millwall report: Norwich City match report

Norwich City maintained their bid for automatic promotion with a 3-1 win against Millwall at the Den to return to the top of the Championship.

After being knocked off top spot by Leeds United following their 4-0 win over West Brom on Friday night, the Canaries responded in fantastic fashion. While Norwich City made it a hat-trick of wins, Neil Harris’ Millwall have now lost their last three.

Millwall had started the game very well and were unlucky not to go ahead early on. Jed Wallace’s corner was brilliantly headed by Jake Cooper but it was blocked on the line before Steve Morison’s follow-up was also cleared on the line. Moments later, Morison fed Gregory but his curling effort was easily held on by Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul.

But despite the hosts’ promising start, Daniel Farke’s Norwich took the lead in the 16th minute. Onel Hernandez exchanged a nice one-two with Emi Buendia but his shot was saved by Jordan Archer, only for the rebound to kindly fall to Marco Stiepermann, who drilled the ball into the back of the net.

Just before the half-hour Teemu Pukki couldn’t quite stretch enough to head in a fine Stiepermann cross from the left, and Millwall equalised on the stroke of half-time when Shaun Williams headed home Morison’s flick-on off the frame of the goal.

Millwall began the second period just like they did the first, but it was Norwich that came the closest to taking the lead. However, the Canaries reclaimed the lead in the 68th minute, when Zimmermann rose at the near post to power home a Buendia corner from the right with his head to claim a 2-1 lead.

Buendia then set up Pukki to wrap the game up 10 minutes later as the Finn fired home his 28th strike of the season. Norwich survived a late scare as Krul produced a fine double save to keep out Morison and then Mahlon Romeo and at the death.

At the other end, Archer denied Norwich a fourth with a good low stop from Pukki’s strike. In the end, Farke’s men claimed a vital three points at the Den to reclaim top spot in the Championship table.

After reclaiming the top spot with a fine 3-1 victory at Millwall, here’s how some Norwich fans reacted on Twitter.
