Tottenham reviving their interest in this Bundesliga hotshot would make them an outstanding attacking unit next season

Tottenham opinion: Why Ante Rebic would be a brilliant fit for Spurs

Back in January, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ante Rebic claimed that he would like a move to England as it suits his style of play.

Rebic, 25, caught the eye last summer, following a superb World Cup campaign with Croatia. He starred for his nation at the World Cup in Russia, helping his nation reach the final of the tournament before losing out to France.

The speedy forward instantly became a hot property after the World Cup and was coveted by a number of European clubs, but he decided to stay put at Frankfurt and help the club to a seventh-place finish in the Bundesliga table.

Tottenham were one among the host of clubs interested in signing Rebic last summer and were prepared to pay around £35million to sign him; however, a move didn’t materialise.

With Rebic having expressed his desire to play in the Premier League, the time could be ripe for Spurs to reignite their interest in the 25-year-old winger.

Mauricio Pochettino has signed only two players so far in the ongoing summer transfer window. But if Spurs are to realistically challenge for the Premier League title as well as other trophies next season, they need a lot more than just two additions.

The Tottenham boss has an exciting starting XI, one that is capable of beating any team on their day. But what he lacks is depth in the squad and that is something he needs to address over the summer.

One important area Pochettino should address is the striker department, with Harry Kane needing support and competition from next season.

With Fernando Llorente’s contract expiring this summer and Vincent Janssen expected to leave the club, Tottenham need a clinical, versatile forward that can cover as well as compete with Kane. In that regard, Rebic would be perfect for Pochettino’s side.

Predominantly a left-winger, Rebic can play anywhere across the front-line which will give Pochettino the tactical flexibility. He is fast, agile, intelligent and is known for his exquisite dribbling skills.

The 25-year-old backs his ability to take on his man and beat him with his explosive pace and trickery. The Croatian international has the ability to stretch play and will offer a different dimension to Spurs’ attack.

The ex-Fiorentina man keeps the defenders on their toes with his movement and is more than just a one-trick pony. Furthermore, he is a calm and composed finisher in front of goal and on his day, he is almost unplayable.

Verdict

At the age of 25, Rebic is yet to hit his peak, which apparently makes him ideal for Tottenham. He has the required qualities to thrive in the Premier League and in Spurs’ free-flowing and exciting style of play, the explosive Croat could be a smash hit at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
