Tottenham should ditch Danny Rose and sign this exciting 21-year old – Opinion

Why should Spurs offload Danny Rose and sign Kieran Tierney instead

Danny Rose’s injury-laden past two seasons have forced him into a situation where he isn’t Tottenham‘s first-choice left-back anymore. The 28-year-old missed a total of 39 games due to knee problems, between January to December of 2017.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino had no choice but to turn towards Ben Davies to perform the role and truth be told, the Welshman has done a terrific job. For that reason, even if Rose gets fully fit, he might not get a chance to play the high-intensity game at Tottenham.

Celtic‘s Kieran Tierney has taken giant strides towards becoming one of the best left-backs in the division. At 21, he has many years ahead of him to further develop and perform at the highest level. Pochettino loves to work with young players and groom them to become world-beaters.

So, getting Tierney and doing the same shouldn’t be anything new for the Argentine. If the chance arises, Pochettino must offload Danny Rose and replace him with Kieran Tierney instead.

Let us just take an in-depth look at the player and analyse as to how he can fit in at Tottenham.

Player Analysis – Kieran Tierney

Unlike many full-backs of the modern day, Tierney is more of a two-way player who does most of his defensive work first before looking to make runs forward when necessary.

The 21-year-old possesses a fabulous ability to tackle and break up the attacks in wide areas of the pitch. He demonstrated a tackle and interception rate of 2 and 2.7 per game respectively in the league last season.

Tierney is an aggressive defender in a sense that he loves a one-on-one battle. He stays a bit deep when the team is attacking, in order to stop the opposition from counter-attacking. The Scot’s propensity to pick out crucial key passes can’t be ignored as well.

In Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 system, the left-back can play as a third centre-back when the team is in possession. It will allow Kieran Trippier to bomb forward and the defensive midfielder will only have the right-back area to worry about on the break.

Verdict

Tierney has the required potential to become one of the best and Tottenham might be the right place for him to develop into one. He possesses the ability to succeed in North London, and Pochettino might prefer working with him rather than sticking with Danny Rose.
