Tottenham reviving their interest in this 15-goal Bundesliga star would get them a perfect Kane backup

Tottenham opinion: Spurs must reignite their interest in Alassane Plea

Back in July 2018, the Telegraph had claimed that Tottenham were interested in signing forward Alassane Plea, who was then playing for OGC Nice. However, a move didn’t materialise and the Frenchman ended up signing for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Alassane Plea, 26, scored 15 goals and supplied four assists in 33 games across all competitions in his debut season with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The versatile forward just completed a strong campaign in the Bundesliga and there’s every reason for Tottenham to reignite their interest in the Frenchman.

Spurs are still to make a signing this summer, having failed to bring in a single player in either of the previous two transfer windows.

That is sure to change, with manager Mauricio Pochettino desperate to strengthen after watching his side taste defeat in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

As per the Evening Standard, the North London side are set to complete their first signing of the summer in Jack Clarke, who is expected to join Pochettino’s forces from Leeds United. The teenage winger is very close to completing an £8.5 million transfer to Tottenham.

Ideally, Tottenham need a new striker given the departure of Fernando Llorente while Mousa Dembele has not yet been replaced after leaving for China during the January transfer window.

Harry Kane has endured injury problems over the last couple of seasons and its high time Pochettino brings in a striker to compete and act as the England international’s understudy.

Alassane Plea could just be that ticket for Tottenham. He is a versatile forward who can lead the line, play as a second striker or on either wings. The former France youth international could potentially form a solid partnership with Kane when Pochettino opts for two up front.

Blessed with pace, power and physicality, the 26-year-old has matured a lot in terms of his movement and finishing and he is exactly the type of player, who Pochettino can develop into a world-class forward.

Plea is perhaps entering his peak years and in Pochettino’s high-octane system, he could really thrive next season. Plus, the ex-OGC Nice man possesses the required qualities to flourish in the Premier League.

Despite just completing a season with Gladbach, Plea might just be tempted to work under Pochettino, who has helped many players unlock their true potential so far in his time at Tottenham.

Moreover, Tottenham would be able to offer the 26-year-old forward Champions League football, the lure of which is very difficult for any player to turn down.

Verdict

Plea has constantly shown his ability to score goals in the last few years and a move to the Premier League this summer would be ideal. Tottenham must show great ambition this summer if they are to challenge for trophies next season and signing the Frenchman would be a step in the right direction.
