Tottenham signing this 20-year-old rising star would get them a gem on their hands this summer – Poch must do this

Tottenham opinion: Should Spurs sign Gedson Fernandes?

According to a report from the Mirror, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Benfica’s Gedson Fernandes in the summer. The Portuguese has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Liverpool but the report reveals that Spurs seem keener on him than their Premier League rivals.

Spurs have failed to sign a single player in the last two transfer windows but Mauricio Pochettino, despite that, has led his side to final of the Champions League after a phenomenal comeback against Ajax in Amsterdam.

Spurs have really struggled with injuries this season with stars like Harry Kane and Dele Alli missing a crucial part of the campaign. However, the area that hurt them the most is central midfield.

Moussa Dembele’s departure in January proved to be a massive blow, which has resulted in Spurs dropping out of the title race this season.

Replacing the Belgian has to be a priority for Pochettino who has been promised with money to spend in the summer by chairman Daniel Levy. Spurs have to bring in a top midfielder and Gedson Fernandes could turn out to be a real gem.

The 20-year-old has been outstanding for Benfica in the centre of the park, having played 46 games in all competitions so far. Joao Felix and Ruben Dias’ performances for the Portuguese giants this season has overshadowed Gedson’s brilliance this season but he has been an integral part of their squad.

A highly versatile player, Gedson has featured across all central midfield positions this season and also on the right wing. His best position is, however, in the centre of the park where he has proven to be able to dictate games this season.

Gedson possesses a fantastic range of passing and has been seen picking out a forward from a deeper position almost effortlessly. His ability to split defences with his brilliant through balls will be a brilliant addition to Spurs, whose forwards will thrive under his service.
