Tottenham signing this versatile 22-year-old midfielder would propel them towards greater glory

Why Tottenham should revive interest in signing Youri Tielemans

Tottenham were one of the busier sides in the summer transfer window as they signed four players.

Tanguy Ndombele has already shown what he can do for the side with a goal on his Premier League debut while Giovani Lo Celso is slowly being bedded into the team.

Ryan Sessegnon is yet to feature for the team due to an injury and Jack Clarke is spending the season on-loan at Leeds United.

Spurs were linked with several players in the summer, and that included Youri Tielemans too.

Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur claimed that the player’s agent was in talks with Tottenham and Manchester United (h/t Express), however, the midfielder ended up signing permanently for Leicester City.

The 22-year-old had joined the Foxes on loan in the January window and impressed under Brendan Rodgers.

Tielemans struggled to make things work at Monaco and after a decent spell at Leicester, Tottenham need to revive their interest in him.

More creativity at Spurs

Although Spurs have Lo Celso on their books, who is also a creative player like Tielemans, Tottenham could do with someone of the Belgian’s talent.

The youngster has proven that he can play in a demanding environment like the Premier League and had scored three times and provided four assists from 13 games last season.

Mauricio Pochettino

Tielemans can play in a deeper role or just behind the striker, which would provide Mauricio Pochettino with ample scope to put him in the team.

The Argentine is known to try out various formations and could use someone of Tielemans’ skills in the midfield.

Pochettino has played with three midfielders this season and a trio of Ndombele, Tielemans and Winks would work wonders for the team.

Winks would do a lot of ball recycling and harrying the opposition, while Ndombele seems to be capable of doing several things from the middle of the park.

Harry Winks

The Frenchman also brings a physical element to the Spurs midfield while Tielemans would be allowed to join the attack or play from a deeper position.

Lo Celso could feature further up alongside Christian Eriksen with Harry Kane leading the line. Pochettino could also mix things up by playing two strikers and having either Eriksen or Lo Celso behind the striker.

Tielemans is only 22 and will improve further under a quality manager, and he should do well under Rodgers at Leicester.

However, Tottenham could do with more creativity in the team as they look to win a trophy under Pochettino.

Verdict

Tielemans is one of the rising stars in the league and will improve under Pochettino.

The 22-year-old won’t be easy to land from Leicester but would make an excellent addition to this Spurs team.
